it's beginning to look a lot like christmas!

last week haley and i decorated for christmas, and it sure is starting to look a lot like christmas! i love it! these aren't even all that we have done :)
a friend dropped this by one day after work...best surprise of the week!
my previous offer still stands, now with a little extra incentive :)
i think this is my favorite feature of the apartment!
the thermostat...haley's favorite feature
can't not mention the reason for the season!
i made these little guys yesterday on my day off work. i'm happy with the way they turned out!

have i mentioned that i love, love christmas?!

curling!

recently i have been trying some things i have never tried before including trips to museums, the zoo, and much more. most recently, curling. last weekend some friends and i headed over to the salt lake olympic oval to try our hand (or should i say broom) at curling. it was fun, although it's probably safe to say that we all felt a little ridiculous at some point during the night!

atlanta!

so, one of the reasons i have been so absent from the blogosphere is the fact that back in november my mom and i went to atlanta for a few days. i was accepted to present my thesis research at the American Speech-Language Pathology national convention, and i somehow convinced my mom to come with...we had a great time! of course, the reason for the trip was to go the convention, but we couldn't help but see some of the sights of atlanta while we were there. here are just a few shots of the many fun times we had...
olympic park, sight of the 1996 atlanta olympics
me and mom at the world of coca-cola factory. such a fun tribute to the world of coca-cola!

so, yeah. atlanta was a blast, and i was so glad my mom could be there with me!

AND, on my way home back to salt lake, i got to swing by my california home to hang out with the parentals and bryan for a day. it was great to see them too!

spence.

have i mentioned recently how much i love being an auntie em?! recently, i've got to hang out with my nephew a bunch, and i have loved it! here are just a few shots of the little man...

proud of myself.

most people who read this blog know that i recently moved and have been playing house for real. as promised to many, here are some pictures of some of the projects i have been doing around the house. i have to say that i am a little proud of myself for teaching myself how to do them all!
the living room before...
i recently discovered paint matching at home depot. best. idea. ever! i went and bought a sample size of the blue i wanted to paint the living room. when i went back for more, they didn't have the base i needed to mix up the color i wanted. long story short, i got a quart of paint for $5. this whole project--paint, rollers, and all--cost me less than $15!
the new blue wall

the kitchen/dining room before...
this dining room table/chairs is from ikea (a special blog thanks goes out to bryan for helping me build them :)) my roommate haley made this adorable pumpkin from a pinterest inspired post, and with some more paint matching at home depot, i painted the mirror to match the pillows on the couch nearby.
we also landed on this free vinyl from one of haley's family friends to post in the kitchen. i'm willing to prove it to anyone who's interested :)
the living/dining room
a close up of the wall gallery. many have asked about the clock in the middle and the mirror on the shelf. i bought both of them as an lds church missionary in bilbao spain. the clock design is the same as the pattern of the cobblestone found on all the streets of bilbao. every time i look at it i get a twinge of homesickness for northern spain. i sure love and miss that place!

my bedroom before
this dresser is also from ikea (thanks again, bryan!) i found this comforter at kohl's, thanks to a sweet hook-up coupon from one of my patients at the hospital. the yellow and gray make me happy.

so there you have it. slowly but surely my apartment is coming together. it's starting to feel like a real home, and i feel really good about that!

silver lake revisited.

i have decided that silver lake may be one of my new favorite places! as mentioned in my previous blog post, i first discovered silver lake last week with a friend. on sunday, some other friends and i went back to the lake in between sessions of general conference (which was amazing, by the way) for a leisurely stroll around the lake to enjoy the scenery. i was amazed at how many of the leaves had fallen in just a few days! here are some pix of sunday's trip...

i am seriously loving the utah fall this year!

i like fall. fall's my favorite.

on tuesday, a friend and i both had the day off work so we decided to brave big cottonwood canyon. i am so glad we did! it was a beautiful day! we planned to walk around silver lake near brighton ski resort, but our planned 30 minute nature walk turned into a 4-hour 1000 feet climb with beautiful scenes and good conversation. here are some of the photos i took along the way...
